Father Steven’s installation as our new Rector on 20th November 2020 in Colyton church was a splended occasion! Bishop Jackie presided and preached and the church was packed with people from all over the Mission Community, as well as large numbers of visiting clergy and choirs. Afterwards there were refreshments at the town hall.
The service to install Steven as our new Rector, which will be conducted by The Rt Revd Jackie Searle, the Bishop of Crediton, will be held in St Andrew’s Colyton on Wednesday 20th November at 7.30 pm. All are welcome! Steven will preside at Holy Communion at 10.00 am on Thursday 21st November in Branscombe.
Many of us already know Victoria Chester, who has been exercising her Reader ministry here in Holyford Mission Community for a number of years. She has now completed her training for ordination and will be ordained Deacon at Exeter Cathedral on Saturday 14th September at 3.00 pm. Please pray for Victoria as she prepares for this new chapter in her ministry.
She will be welcomed among us in her new role on Sunday 15th September at the Breakfast Service in Colyton: breakfast at 10.00 followed by the service at 10.30. So that everyone who wishes has the opportunity to be there, the morning services in the other Holyford churches that day have been cancelled. Other services which will still take place that day will be 8.00 am Holy Communion, Colyton; 6.30 pm Evening Prayer, Colyton.
She will be continuing in her secular job as CEO Bristol Animal Rescue Centre while working among us as our Assistant Curate (self-supporting).
Children from Branscombe School and the Jubilee Federation had a lovely time in the sunshine on the beach on Monday July 8th. They worked together beautifully as a team to sculpt this image of the Titanic using different coloured pebbles.
The annual church open day and market is on Saturday 13th July from 10.30 am – 3.00 pm. There will be trips up the church tower and guided historical tours.
Amazing parachuting teddy bears at 2.30 pm!

On these days parishes traditionally asked for blessing on the land, and often people would walk around the parish boundaries.

How these ancient texts may lead into the all-encompassing Mystery of God, with Canon Patrick Woodhouse
The Psalms are treasured texts within both the Jewish and Christian traditions, and yet they can also be difficult, even forbidding, coming from an ancient and very different world.
On this Quiet Day we shall touch on what these ancient texts are, when they were written, and out of what kind of contexts they emerged; but mainly we shall explore the power of their meanings for us today, and how they can nourish a deep life of prayer and contemplation, enabling us to see ourselves and the world differently.
Patrick Woodhouse is a writer and Anglican priest. Recently he published Life in the Psalms (Bloomsbury 2015) and Etty Hillesum, a Life Transformed (Bloomsbury 2009), the story of a young Jewish diarist who died in Auschwitz. He was for thirteen years a Canon of Wells Cathedral. He now lives in South Somerset.
The day is provided free, including lunch, with an opportunity to make a donation to the Mission Community. Please sign up on the sheets which will be in the back of the church from Sunday 3rd February, by Monday 18th February at the latest. Please also indicate whether you need transport.
A group from Holyford came to the cathedral on 10th February to support our John Lees when he was installed as Prebendary – a very happy occasion. John continues his ministry in Holyford as Associate Priest as before.
Hilary’s last day serving in the Mission Community will be Friday 4th January, when she will be saying goodbye to our mission community congregations and to the wider community at a special service at 7.30 pm in St Andrew’s Colyton. Refreshments afterwards. All very welcome.
