St. Michael’s Choir – Colyford
Probably best described as ‘a village choir’ and not quite up to cathedral standard – yet, but our music is delivered with pride and passion. We have 8 regular stalwart members and quite often a further 4 making 12. Our hymns are mainly traditional with a few modern ones to match the occasion. The anthems are chosen to suit our numbers and we sing psalms and the communion and evening prayer responses. For the communion and evening services we robe and have organ accompaniment. The first Sunday in the month is less formal with a few choir members amongst the congregation and organ via CD. As well as singing we have occasional social get togethers.
The organ, although electronic, has 2 manuals, a full pedal board and most of the stops found on a traditional church organ – plus enough wellie to fill the building!
On holy days such as Ascension Day or Ash Wednesday we often take a turn in hosting the Mission Community Service. The choir is swelled with some members of the other church choirs to make a great occasion. We also return the compliment and sing at Branscombe on Advent Sunday and other joint services as they arise.
We would warmly welcome any new members. There is no audition, no need to read music and I promise no mandatory solos. The only requirement is a love of singing – what better way to celebrate and give thanks for everything. I await your call on 01297 55 29 38.
