Some prayers

Mother Julian of Norwich

O God, of your goodness, give us yourself, for only in you do we have all.

From the Gelasian Sacramentary

Almighty and everlasting God, the comfort of the sad, the strength of those who suffer; hear the prayers of your children who cry out of any trouble; and to every distressed soul grant mercy, relief and refreshment.

From the Iona Community

Deep peace of the running wave to you/ Deep peace of the flowing air to you/ Deep peace of the quiet earth to you/ Deep peace of the shining stars to you/ Deep peace of the Son of peace to you.

Intercessions

Brothers and sisters, pray for us. 1 Thessalonians 5.25

We pray in each church every week for the needs of the church and the world, the local community, for those who are suffering or in need and those who have died. If you would like us to pray for you or someone you know, please contact one of the ministry team or your church warden.

Exploring prayer

Lord, teach us to pray  Luke 11.1

There are many different types and ways of praying, suitable for different people, different needs and different occasions. However, Jesus made it clear that his followers need to complement their worship together with a personal prayer life of private intimacy with the Father:

Go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Matthew 6.6

Here are some suggestions for personal devotion:

Loving God,
Look with mercy on your servants
who seek in solitude and silence
refreshment of soul and strengthening for service;
grant us abundant blessing
in the peace of Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty,
My memory, my understanding, and my entire will:
All that I have and call my own.
You have given it to me and now I freely return it.
Use it according to your will.
Give me only your love and your grace,
For these will be enough for me.
A prayer of St Ignatius Loyola

Teach me, good Lord,
to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not to count the cost;
to fight and not to heed the wounds;
to toil and not to seek for rest;
to labour and not to ask for any reward,
save that of knowing that I do your will;
through Jesus Christ my Lord.           Amen
